Despite only sharing the same father, Laurel never treated Logan any differently than if they has shared the same mother. In fact, they had the best of both worlds; they had the opportunity to share their mothers with each other. The age difference never proved to be an issue, and the siblings remained as close as ever as they grew older. She hated leaving him behind when she decides to go out of state for college, and her heart shattered even more when he decided that leaving the area would be best for him. But regardless, her relationship with her brother always came first. He was the first person she confided in, and she was ecstatic when he finally returned.

Before her younger sister was born, Laurel had little family other than her cousins Danny and Hannah. While Laurel's relationship to Danny had been volatile when they were younger, it definitely began to develop more as they grew older. Rather than chasing her around with a bat, Danny slipped into the role of reminding Laurel that she was more than just a mother. She often convinced Laurel to go out and have a good time, taking advantage of the rare occasions when she could slip away from her motherly duties.

Tucker had been present in Laurel's life long before they began their taboo love affair, as he happened to be her cousin Hannah's best friend. After learning that he had needed a job, she suggested that he apply for the position as her teaching assistant for her first grade class. The two began working side by side, and the constant proximity only magnified her attraction to him. Unable to resist the temptation, the two began having an inappropriate affair after hours. However, when another teacher caught them in the classroom, both knew that whatever they shared was simply not worth losing their jobs and tarnishing their reputations, effectively ending their relationship.

During a random night out with her friends, Laurel was completely taken by the handsome stranger at the bar. She took the initiative to buy him a drink, and the two engaged themselves in stimulating conversation. Knowing that the morning after was typically awkward and what ruined whatever "magic" that happened, they quickly agreed to remain completely anonymous to preserve said magic. So under aliases, they acted out their fantasy lives and no actual information was exchanged. However, when Laurel discovered that she was pregnant six weeks later, she had no idea where to begin to contact him. While she was not actively searching for him, she always had her eyes peeled for him. He had no idea that he fathered a beautiful 9-month-old baby girl, but Laurel had always vowed that she would allow him to be a part of her life should he want to - and if she was ever lucky enough to find him again.

Shortly after graduating from college, Laurel returned to the comfort of home. She continued to enjoy her youth by integrating herself into the club circuit. One evening, she met a handsome officer by the name of Lee Adams. They continued to meet whenever he was in the area, but her flighty nature when it came to relationships had taken its toll. In combination with the aftermath of his recent divorce, the two parted amicably. However, in September 2008, the two were reunited by the Tutoring Program that she began at her school. They worked closely over the course of the next year, and they continued their efforts again for the following academic year.

Laurel had always been actively involved in extracurricular activities, and becoming a teacher did not prevent her from continuing said involvement. When she approached the local radio station for help with a children's fundraiser that she had been planning, fate intervened by introducing her to Aidan. Their relationship quickly settled into the territory between a meaningless fling and a serious relationship, comfortably casual to the both of them. The on and off nature of their relationship continued for several months until the flame simply flickered out. However, the pair maintained their friendship, often supporting each other through difficult times.

Life introduced Laurel to Reid during a search for a roommate. Never one to judge a book by its cover, she looked past the quirkiness and idiosyncratic behavior to embrace her roommate for what he was. Their friendship continued to blossom over the years, and he quickly became one of her closest friends. He had been her anchor when her world turned upside down at the discovery that she was pregnant. He had been just as invested in this child as she had been, but she realized that it would be unfair for him to live with a single mother and her baby. Fortunately her search for a new apartment led her to the unit next door. Since then, he had become a staple in Willow's life as well, offering her an incredibly positive male role model in the years before her father reentered their lives.
